7.5   Merging Logs from Multiple Processors

Basic multiprocessor support is provided by allowing multiple logs to be merged. This is accomplished in the parser by allowing additional logs to be attached to the one already selected for view. The tasks in the new log are merged with those already present in the display. The parser places an indicator of the processor number on the view graph display in the context label for each task. The processor number is also displayed in the Context Attributes dialog box. Figure 7-4 shows the result of opening installDir/host/src/windview/samples/merge1.wvr and then selecting WindView>Merge Log from the main Tools menu and adding installDir/host/src/windview/samples/merge2.wvr. The CPU designation can be seen in both the combined view graph and the Context Attributes dialog box.

This technique does not provide synchronization of the logs. If they received their timestamps from the same source, logs are automatically synchronized, but no external synchronization is provided.
